Review: Icewind Dale  7:19 AM CDT - Posted By Eric Lopez
It’s a great time to be a role-playing gamer. For the past couple of years, we have been treated to several RPG epics. Among the most critically acclaimed titles in recent times are Fallout, Baldur’s Gate and Torment. Coincidentally, Black Isle Studios, a company whose name has become synonomous with quality RPGs, has worked on all of those games in one way or another. Though there were some bumps in their early days (initial QA work on Fallout 2 left a lot to be desired), there’s no question as to the caliber of work they produce. With that, let’s take a look at their latest effort – Icewind Dale.

Review: Diablo II  7:19 AM CDT - Posted By Eric Lopez
As I started composing my review of Diablo 2, I wondered if it wasn't a wasted effort. Previews of every aspect of the game have been available at dozens of game sites for a couple of years. With 2 million units in worldwide distribution as of this writing, a review would seem superfluous. The masses have already made their decision. My local software store ordered several cases of Diablo 2 for the initial launch, and people were lined up out the door to pick up the game they've been waiting four long years to play. For two weeks, the shelf space reserved for Diablo 2 was vacant, as copies were plucked straight out of the shipping boxes long before they reached the shelves. Blizzard already has a smash hit on their hands and will probably be on PC Data's Top Ten list for the next year. Still, I've got a job to do so let's get started.

Review: Vampire: The Masquerade  7:19 AM CDT - Posted By Eric Lopez
There are plenty of pen and paper RPGs available in a wide variety of settings, but for some reason, the majority of these worlds were never adapted for computer gaming. Take a moment to consider computer RPGs and you'll probably recall dozens of titles based on the AD&D license. With a few rare exceptions, nearly all computer RPGs take place in a world of swords and sorcery. Over the past two years, an edgy startup by the name of Nihilistic Software has quietly been working on Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, an RPG set in the romantic and dangerous world of vampire society. It's an ambitious project, but one that ultimately has a bittersweet taste.

Review: System Shock 2  7:19 AM CDT - Posted By Atomic
Very rarely do games come along that defy solid classification. Back in 1994, when Looking Glass released the original System Shock, many gamers passed over it as being another Doom clone. Unfortunately for them, they missed one of gaming’s greatest achievements. The original was not merely a shooter; it also borrowed role-playing and adventure game elements as well. Since then, no game in recent memory has matched the depth and freshness - perhaps with the exception of Half-Life - of that delicious slice of gaming history.

Review: NOX  7:19 AM CDT - Posted By Dragons
Yep, I realize at the time this review comes out, the game isnt even on the shelves yet. Doesnt that make this a preview the Dragons? Nope, this is a review of the final code. Mostly a review of the multiplayer aspects and I will come back in a week or two and add in the single player in depth review. I was able to log hours yesterday at a local cybercafe with Aaron of Westwood studios playing some single player and a heck of alot of multi-player. I was able to solicit comments from 30+ other players present to form a real good opinion about the game and its multi-player (and some single player) aspects.

Review: Demise  7:19 AM CDT - Posted By Jason "Virgil" Smith
Introduction
I wasn't sure what to expect when I sat down with my brand new copy of Demise, a new game from Artifact Entertainment. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. Demise is a very addictive dungeon crawl, along with a nice plot and backstory. It's balanced well, at least as much as I ever saw, with an emphasis on exploration and atmosphere and very light on 'twitch reflexes'.
